This kind of flooring is made from an individual piece of timber. Diversity in the wood patterns, colors, and textures of solid wood flooring provide fodder for the imagination to help the homeowner create his own dramatic look. There are three major kinds of solid wood flooring. They all come in pre-finished or unfinished. Pre-finished is ready for installation. Unfinished needs sanding and finishing after it's installed. The width and thickness of the planks defines strip flooring. It has a standard width, but variations of thickness. The available thicknesses are 1 1/2 inches, 2 inches, and 2 3/4 inches, and 3 1/4 inches. The widths are 5/16 of an inch up to 3/4 of an inch. Plank flooring can vary in width from 3 inches up to 8 inches. The thickness comes in 1/2 of an inch and 3/4 of an inch. Parquet flooring has a different image than normal wood floors because it is made of slats composing geometrical patterns. Adhesive or mechanical fasteners keep them together.
