Here in Texas and states like Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee, this true mid-south climate features humid, hot, long summers and cool winters. These states have only brief periods of cold weather. Usually snow and long days of freezing cold will not be the norm, and since both Spring and fall are short seasons; it is well accepted that the South is known for it’s hot weather. Cool winters with temperatures ranging from 40 F and 50 F can sometimes give way to a winter cold front that drops temperatures into the lower 20s. Summer temperatures rise to the upper 90s and can exceed 100 F for long periods of time as early as May, and as late as October. . Rainfall ranges from 24 inches in the western areas of central Texas to 40 to 50 inches in areas of Arkansas and Tennessee. Spring storms can be severe, with the threat of tornadoes in all areas.
Winter Climates from December through March are cool. Day temperatures can vary from 40* to 50*, and create conditions year-round for exterior concrete placement. Freeze thaw conditions and air entrainment is quite common on most exterior concrete placement, mix designs can have different compressive strengths depending on final use. Chemical set accelerators to help the concrete set faster and air entrainment admixtures to help with freeze thaw conditions are part of the concrete floors and exterior uses. And while hot water can increase concrete temperatures more quickly, proper mix designs, placement, curing, and durability much preven spalling and scaling concrete at large.
Placement and Curing Practices: Curing concrete in these regions usually requires the use of solvent-based curing compounds or cure-and-seal chemicals to avoid freezing.
